The cat they use in the picture must be 5 or 6 lbs at most. I have a 16 lb cat who is taller and longer than my dogs and he cannot even curl up on this mat. It also makes a very annoying scrunch sound as though it were filled with beads. I gave it to a friend a couple of days after I bought it. Smaller cats would love it because it definitely would help them with self-heating, but if you have a larger-than-normal cat, forgo this entirely and seek out a thermal dog pad instead. Agree with others about sound  On: 2010-05-20I agree with others that it may be the crinkly sound this item makes when my kittie walked on it that made her not like it. It now just sits there... cat's don't like it  On: 2010-04-14This is a nice, well-made mat, but for some reason my cats dont like it. Ive tried it in several places where they lay, but they stay off it. I think maybe its the crinkle. They just like cheap fleece blankets better than anything! She seems to enjoy the heat curled up into a ball. I would definitely recommend it to anyone with a older kitty. Snug as a Bug On: 2010-01-26The slumber pet thermal cat mat is a favorite of my kitty. It is situated so that she can lay on it and look out the window. A real hit. They love it! On: 2010-01-19My cats love it! I put it down on the sofa and it didnt take them more than a minute to find it and discover that they love it. They both snuggle on it together and must enjoy the warmth because they will remain together on the pad through the night even when the temps drop down and the breeze picks up. They have an enclosed "condo" they can go into, but yet they remain on their pad. An added benefit : they love their pad so much they sleep no where else, and this leaves the rest of our outdoor furniture fur free! great cat bed On: 2009-12-27I bought this bed for my dads cat based on reviews I read here. It lives up to its 5 star rating! As soon as my dad put the bed on the floor, his cat, Isabelle, rushed over to it, plopped down on it and refused to move! Take it from Isabelle: this is one great cat bed. Reservations turn into unabashed adoration On: 2009-12-24When this mat first came, I was thrilled. Looks great, feels pretty good, and the crinkly noise mentioned in other reviews is minimal at worst. My cat, however, hated it. I put it on her favorite chair; she stopped sitting on it. Put it on "her" spot on the couch arm, and she stopped sitting there too. It actually took me a few days to realize: this thing is slippery! On a microfiber couch, it cant produce enough friction to stay on the arm of the couch. But once I put it on the flat part of the couch, she wont get up. She adores it. Id definitely recommend this to anyone with a cat that paws at closed doors because s/he is cold :) All 3 of my cats love this mat! On: 2009-12-23I bought 3 mats for my 3 cats and placed one in each of their favorite napping spots, after some sniffing and investigating, they soon sat on it and as soon as they realized that it was keeping them warm... all 3 were relaxing on the mats all night. Now if theyre relaxing, its on the mats and only on the mats. I highly recommend it and its quite inexpensive and machine washable... what more could you ask for? Nice cat mat! On: 2009-12-16Now that we have a second cat, we needed a second cat mat for my home office. I liked the idea that this mat helps to warm my cats with their own body heat. The mat is the right size, looks attractive, and both cats seem to love it. Shipping was faster than predicted and the seller included a small cat toy with our purchase. Both cats loved the little play mouse too! We are totally pleased with this purchase. Great Product! Both My Cats Love It, I'm Getting A Second One. On: 2009-12-06I have a 15 year old cat with arthritis and this mat was one of the best investments I ever made. I set it on the bed where she usually sleeps. She loves this mat and now sleeps on it every night. She also seeks it out in the daytime for her naps. My younger cat also loves it. Im getting a second one for him. My cats love it On: 2009-12-04I bought this mat for my 11-year-old cat who was just diagnosed with liver cancer. I thought the extra bit of heat would be soothing to her. Almost as soon as I got it out of the package she curled up on it. My younger cat loves it as well. He tends to get scared easily so I thought the little crinkling noises the mat makes would startle him. To my surprise, he got on it immediately. The first couple of days after it arrived, he barely left the mat. Im actually thinking of getting another one so they can each have their own cat mat. My cats won't go near these On: 2009-11-30These mats are excellent cat deterrents. My cats refuse to go anywhere near these mats. I dont think they like the crinkly noise it makes when they walk on it. Our cat likes this mat so much we just bought her a second On: 2009-11-02We (or rather, our cat) has had this mat for over two years. She tends to get cold readily and usually sleeps some or all of the night with us. But the rest of the night, and much of every day, she is on the mat. So we figure it must be warming her. She really seems to like it. The mat does make little crunching noises when she works it over with her paws before settling into it, but the crunching is not loud, couldnt wake anybody, and is actually sort of pleasant to hear, somehow slightly comical. Its less garish than it might appear in the photo, not bad at all. After two years, the mat is none the worse for wear. I can contrast this mat with the SnuggleSafe Heat Pad. While us humans have found that it does a good job of preheating our sheets for our feet in the winter, our cat never seemed to like it at all. UPDATE: I originally put this review on another place where an Amazon seller has the identical product. I came back today to buy a second mat. Our cat, Bella, used the mat on "her" chair, but as the weather got colder she often chose to sleep on "our" bed, often right in the middle (I call her spot there "Kansas"), which we didnt much like as it was prudishly effective at preventing our spooning. We took her mat from her chair and put it on the bottom of the bed, in, say, south Texas, and, even though the rest of the bed offers the pleasures of a down comforter, she now sleeps down in south Texas, leaving the rest of the country to us. Very nice On: 2009-10-16Nice pet pad. Not as loud or "crunchy" as expected, which is nice. Kitten likes it, especially since it was moved in front of the fireplace. I love the color of the material, and its big enough for large cats. Good for people!!! On: 2009-07-23Bought it for winter nights for my elderly cat, but most unfortunately, he wont use it. Maybe the crinkly noise spooks him. However, I recently lent it to a friend who pulled her back and needed a heating pad for night time. She and her husband appreciated it so much that they are considering buying one just for them. So, its great for people. And this means it would potentially be useful for children as well, since you wouldnt want an electrical heating pad in your childs bed. Slumber Pet Thermal Mat On: 2009-05-16My elderly cat loves this. She went to lay down on it as soon as she spotted it, in her favourite sleeping place. Now she spends a good part of each day there. Good value On: 2009-04-09I have six cats and I originally bought this for my eldest cat who is 17 years old. Its a nice size, nice and soft. It vacuumes easily with a hand-vac. It crinkles a little bit when they step on it but that doesnt seem to bother my cats in the least. I would recommend this bed as a good value. Oh yeah, every cat but my eldest one lays on it. She still prefers the heating vents! Great Product On: 2009-01-13I had never used one of these pads before, but our cats just love it. So much in fact that I am considering buying another one so that they are not pushing each other off of the one we have now. A little disappointed On: 2009-01-13From reading all the reviews, I was expecting my cats to fall in love with this mat but it didnt happen... I guess the noise is the down-side of this product. I bought one of these for each of my cats, but I decided to give one away to a stray cat that comes to my grandmas house. She has a doghouse for the cat and it sleeps in it. He lounges ALL DAY on it. I was not aware this mat has a crinkly sound until it arrived, which I was figuring would be a huge deterent since my cats have not liked other crinkly toys or beds; it makes no difference with this one. Cats love it, after an adjustment period On: 2008-12-22I ordered this thermal mat for my two kittens, who love to sleep on top of a media chest that we have placed strategically in front of a window. At first, they wouldnt have anything to do with it--every time they stepped on it, it made a sound like crinkling aluminum foil, and they avoided it for days. But they kept trying it because it was placed in one of their favorite spots--the only place in the house where we have a cat perch right in front of a window. Now they use it constantly. As the weather has cooled, theyve seemed to use it more, although I cant tell if it actually retains and reflects body heat like its supposed to. Its the perfect size for my two 7-month-old kittens to curl up side by side. These Pet Thermals are wonderful!!! On: 2008-12-12This Company was very quick in sending this product to me, I received them (I bought 2) within 3 business days. When I opened the box, I was quite surprised when 2 little mice were sitting inside of this package. It was truly a pleasure to get something for my kitties to play with. Both my cats ran right for this Thermal Mat as soon as I put it down. One of the kitties was out the other night and the temperature was 20 degrees. When we went outside to check for him in the morning, he was crying and complaining, as kitties do, and as soon as we opened the door, he ran right upstairs to warm up on his mat. On: 2008-10-30The product arrived very quickly and as ordered. My cats love the thermal mat. I just put it down and showed it to them. Dont put them on it. You need to let cats think it is thier idea to lay on it. (LOL) Perfect size, cats love it! On: 2008-10-16As soon as this cat mat came out of the package, my cat was all over it! This replaced a blanket I bought for myself that my cat adopted and slept on every day! I was a little concerned about the size, my cat is very big, but he fits just fine. One side is black fleece, the other side is a short, faux fur. There is some minimal crinkly noises between the fabrics, something cats love! Somewhat works On: 2008-10-04The pad arrived--one side is grey with leopard print and the other side is black. Its not quite as plush as in the photo and the inside makes a crinkling noise whenever it moves or my cat steps on it. My cat lay on the mat, so thats a plus. When she got up, where she was, indeed, was warm, but the rest of the mat never felt warm. So, it seems to retain some of the heat directly under the cat, but does not have the heated pad effect that I would have wished. Really works On: 2008-02-13I cant give this product 5 stars because the blankets are a little small. My cats do gravitate towards them and they certainly heat up while theyre lying on them. The only negative is youll likely want to buy 2-3 blankets if you have a chubby cat or more than one. Anytime warmth On: 2008-02-09I recently purchased two Slumber Pet Thermal Cat Mats - one for each cat. My older cat with arthritis loves them and is very happy to have two distinct "warming stations" she can use whenever she likes - so far, my kitten isnt interested in these mats at all. I ordered this product based on concern for my older cats health and comfort, so I am not at all disappointed in the results. They are cozy, smart-looking, affordable and very portable; and especially great if you dont want to fuss with microwaving a warming core or worrying about a plug-in product while you arent home. Gives a boost to heating vents On: 2007-12-10In winter, my cat loves plastering herself over the heating vents in my house, roasting her fur until shes literally too hot to touch. I was worried about what that might be doing to the cat, so got one of these mats, and set it in front of the heating vent in my kitchen. Now she curls up on the mat, and doesnt need to roast herself. She wont use the mat if the heat isnt on, however. She still prefers to nest in her down filled kitty bed if theres no external heat source. Nice and Warm On: 2007-12-07My Siamese loves this mat. She is in the window sleeping on it now. I would recommend it highly. Only thing better might be a plug in mat. If she likes it, then I am happy with it! On: 2007-11-14Slumber Pet Thermal Cat Mat (Grey w/Black Designs) 22" x 18 1/2" I bought this mat for my cat because she was having surgery on her paw, and of course I was trying to do everything I could think of to make her more comfortable. She stuck to it like glue and has now completely recovered from her surgery, however she still loves her mat and spends 90% of her nap time on it. I highly recommend this product and the price is great too! Rabbits love it, too! On: 2007-11-10Very nice bed! I bought one for my bunny rabbit and one for my dads cat for Christmas. My bunny loves to lie on it and will do so for hours. When he finally hops away, where he was lying is very warm. The bed is also quite plush, I was thinking it might just feel like two pieces of fabric sewn together. Its about 3/4 inch thick though. The fabrics on it are nice and soft and look good. While Ive not washed it yet, I think it will wash very well. I didnt think the crinkly sound was very loud at all and it doesnt bother my rabbit, who we just rescued and is fairly nervous. My rabbit will be getting a "girlfriend" soon (dont worry, hes been neutered and she will be spayed) and this bed will be plenty big enough for them to lie on together. All in all, I think this was a great buy. Its good quality, was an awesome price and my bunny loves it! cat/dog mat On: 2007-09-25we were expecting a mat with some bulk to it. We had to put a blanket under it for the cat and teh dog wants nothing to do with his. So we have a 50/50 happy/sad situation. cat loves it! After trying to make him use it I put it on his spot on my bed and left him to use it on his own. Now he uses it all the time which is great for me because now I dont have a whole mess of fur on my bedding. Your cat will love this On: 2007-04-05This is a wonderful item that your cat will love. I originally purchased a thermal mat from another website (more expensive with a pattern that I didnt like). My 3 cats fought over who would get to sleep on it, so I did a search and when I found this one, I ordered one for each of them. This cat mat has been such a hit with my furfaces and is such a great deal that I just ordered 3 more, for my dad, sister and a friend to give to their cats. Ive seen similar thermal cat mats for $50+. The pattern that appears on the super soft side is a dark green with subtle black leopard print and the other side is black faux-sheepskin. My cats like both sides. You can throw them in the washing machine and fur doesnt stick to the smooth patterned side, which is nice. Of all of the cat beds I have purchased, including a heated window-mounted bed that plugged into the wall, this mat is my kitties favorite thing to sleep on. On: 2007-02-02We adopted a feral cat and bought this thermal mat because it can get cold in the garage (which is where she lives). It makes a tiny bit of crinkling noise when stepped on, but she wasnt bothered by the sound at all (even though she is feral and still a bit skittish). The mat is made of plush, cozy fabric and is machine washable. Our cat loves the mat and hardly leaves it on days that are a bit chilly. It seems to really work because she also has a pet bed and a bed made out of blankets in the garage and she seems to prefer her mat. Definitely worth the price.
