 Petmate Ultra Bubbler Watering System, Medium, Peacock By: Petmate Average Rating: 3.5 Total Reviews: 77 More Information CAT WATERER  On: 2010-07-18It took my cats about 1 week to get used to this new watering system, but once they did they loved it. I do too since it is so much quieter than the previous one and cheaper too since it doesnt require filters. It is easier to clean since it doesnt have a lot of small spaces to try to get into. All-in all Id say it was a good buy. Easy and Fun On: 2010-06-17The bubbler arrived quickly and was easy to assemble. It has been in constant use for two months now. I have had no problems with it at all. Originally, I purchased it for use when I would be out of town. My cats were a bit fearful the first few seconds after turning it on but they were soon perching on top of it and then playing IN it! The first day it was in use I thought it was leaking because there was water all over the floor. I cleaned up and kept a closer eye on it. Turns out my two monkey cats were splashing each other! I cannot imagine turning it off now. I always know there will be fresh water available for the girls. AS for noise, it does hum and there is the sound of water bubbles. It is no more noise than I expected and is very tolerable. This was money well spent! Did not work so well.  On: 2010-06-13Maybe I expected too much, it bubbled on one side only, and none of my cats cared for this bubbling. But alot of reviews say the opposite. And I have 7 cats. However this was my first Amazon return, and that worked out very well. Leaked! On: 2010-06-03I just received the Petmate Ultra Bubbler Watering System today. I put it together, filled it with water, set it down on the floor and watched it leak water all over! Theres a hole in the bottom. Im sending it back! wanted to like this but cats got acne from it  On: 2010-06-02I was really excited about this cat fountain and it would have been perfect with its huge reservoir and easy clean-up but unfortunately, 2 out of 3 of my cats developed cat acne on their chins from drinking from this fountain. Im guessing its the type of plastic as the Drinkwell fountains are definitely made from a different kind. Its real unfortunate as I love this fountain in every other way. I even tried wrapping the rim in aluminum foil to see if it would help but no luck. Great if my cats would drink from it  On: 2010-05-26After much research, I purchased the Ultra Bubbler since it didnt have filters to change. The item works as described, but for some reason my cats refused to drink from it. Maybe it is too loud? (It sounds like an aquarium pump.) I just cleaned it really well again and Im going to give it another try. Water everywhere! On: 2010-04-28This looked like such a great idea, but the only thing that bubbled was the reservoir, and it filled the bowl all over the floor, no stopping it. One arm of the bubbler was broken. This could be a great product if it werent plastic. Its a good concept, but the product is poorly made. Ive returned this product, dont buy it. Best pet waterer On: 2010-03-18My pets love this waterer. They like it much better then the more expensive kind with flowing water. This is my second one, for putting in another area. One of my cats loves to sit with his paws around it watching the bubbles; I think he likes the moist environment. Other advantages are large capacity and ease of cleaning. No water pump to unclog and generally make your life miserable. The air pump sits at a distance of several feet; in my case on the counter above the waterer. Love the product On: 2010-03-10I am out of town every week for a couple of days. The Petmate Ultra Bubbler Watering system is perfect. It has a big enough tank to make fresh water available for several days. This system stays clean and is easy to clean compared to other pet water fountains. My three cats like the bubbles. I was thrilled to find this product on Amazon, it seems to get harder to find over the last year. It Functions, but not sure if my cats like it  On: 2010-03-04I havent had any issues of malfunction with my watering system. Its easy to assemble and set up. I clean it about once a week. Its not loud, in fact the bubbling is kind of pleasant. I know one of my cats enjoys watching it, and I ASSUME they are drinking from it because the water level goes down after awhile, but I have not actually SEEN them drink from it, and Im not sure if it encourages hydration as I hoped it would. My cats liked it fine On: 2010-02-17I dont have a lot to say about this bubbler but I can say that I received it as ordered and the bubbles are kind of nice to listen to. My cats like it fine even though at first they were a little put off by it. The one problem I had was where to put the little pump. If you dont have it sitting in the right place it causes vibration that can be annoying. Cat meow! On: 2010-02-14This system is great for cats because they like the bubbles and it stays cleaner water better. I will get a bigger one for my dog soon. JUST DIDN'T CUT IT On: 2010-02-08I thought my cats would go crazy over this fountain. They didnt. They didnt even drink out of it one time. I returned it. I dont think there is anything wrong with the product, just not to my cats liking. Amazon.com is far and away the best place to shop. They are all about customer service and I have never ever had a problem with returning anything. My cat loves it On: 2009-12-14I have a finicky cat. She will not drink her water unless she is certain its VERY fresh, as she inspects it every time before she drinks. the constant bubbling of this watering system has done the trick. It stays clean and the full tank has lasted about a week for one cat. She has stopped trying to drink out of the sink, toilet, etc. because she has this wonderful fountain of her very own now. Great product and well worth the money. Petmate Bubbler On: 2009-10-02I have had the bubbler for about 8 months. Past month very little bubbles. so I cleaned the valve by soaking in alcohol. would be fine for a day and then very little bubbles. I recalled review where person broke the valve and connected directly to the air pump. best thing that happened. I took out the valve and connected directly. now bubbles galore. I have a male 8 months old balinese siamese. He likes a lot of bubbles. as rec. by my vet I use only distilled water. of course if your pet does not like a lot of big bubbles you will have to use the valve. Expected Better Quality :( On: 2009-09-23I was hopeful that this product would serve its purpose but it gave out within two months of the day I purchased it. I used it outside and the weather didnt cause it to deffect. The pump quit working and I didnt keep it running 24/7. I turned it on for a few hours each day. I thought the price was good but since it didnt last very long, I would not recommend it. Nice Product On: 2009-08-30I like how it keeps the water fresh for my pet. I dont have to change the water everyday like before. My cat didnt like it at first, he was scared of the bubbles. He has gotten use to it and now drinks from it and play with the bubbles. Keep it clean and it will serve you well On: 2009-06-29Our cats prefer the bubbling water because it stays fresher than a still bowl of water. Its actually convinced them to drink more, which is good for their health. If your cats dont drink as much as they should, try something like this. Its also nice that you dont have to fill a bowl as often. Its definitely noisy, though, and a little hard to keep clean. Make sure you take it apart every time you refill it and scrub it down. If you dont, youll start to get colored mold (depending on your water source) that wont be good for your cats. We LOVE this!! On: 2009-06-284 1/2 stars I greatly hesitated to buy a fountain because of the trouble--cleaning, filters, etc. This is SO easy!! Filling and cleaning are no trouble at all, and I dont find the noise intrusive. Ive removed the tubing completely from the bowl and flushed it to remove blockages and popped it back in without sweat or tears. Im also VERY glad to have tubing and electric cord of a decent length, something manufacturers of fans would do well to copy. It took a week or so for them to get used to it, but its now MamaCat, the Ancient Ones, favorite drinking spot. Others have fallen in line to use it too. The only thing keeping it from a 5-star rating is the soft tubing from the pump to the bowl. This crowd tends to be extremely mouthy, and Im waiting for the day when the lack of bubbles means that the tubing has been chewed to pieces, not knocked loose from the bowl. Id prefer at least an option of heavy-duty tubing, or even protected tubing. Im amazed its made it this long, so who knows? Maybe Petmate knows something I dont and has somehow made the tubing less toothsome to the fur set. Simple makes it perfect On: 2009-06-22Over the last two years we went through 3 other water fountains for our 3 cats. Our previous three were the Petmate Deluxe, Drinkwell Platinum and Drinkwell 360. All are difficult to clean, hold varying amounts of water, get slimey fast, require filters to buy, require special brushes to clean, etc. This just works. Sooooooooo much easier to clean. There are only two parts. The tank and the reservoir. The whole bottom comes off tank like a Tupperware lid for very easy cleaning. Or just toss in the top shelf of dishwasher. The pump is a little gimp and the hosing seems cheap. When the pump burns out, Im just going to buy a nice for an aquarium. I would paid $5 more for a better pump and hose. Make sure you keep pump level. Includes about 36" of tubing. Larger than expected; broke within 2 months On: 2009-05-29I was hoping to replace the Petmate fountain our cats currently drink from, which as many people have noted, gets dirty fast and needs to be painstakingly cleaned by hand. But this bubbler was quite a bit different, and the cats didnt take to it. Its very large, more like you would expect for a dog water dispenser; we couldnt fit it on a kitchen counter like we had hoped, so it had to stay in the laundry room. Then I took it apart to run it through the dishwasher, and broke the hard plastic tube the air comes through. The break was right under the valve that dispenses water, so it wouldnt close properly and water overflowed. Thats right, I managed to break the one part in just such a way to make the whole thing useless. Wish it would have worked! On: 2009-05-21BOTH of my cats love to drink from the faucet. Id purchased another item from petmate that worked well but my cats didnt drink from so I thought Id try this one rather than a drinkwell because of price. Sadly, it isnt working. Initially my younger cat liked to watch the bubbles and play in the water but that lasted two days. My older cat didnt look twice at the bubbler. As far as fountains go, I rate this a three because it looks nice (is a little bulky), holds plenty of water, and is NOT noisy. I found it to produce a rather pleasant sound. But it doesnt get my cats to drink any water. I honestly havent seen my older cat drink from it at all! And my younger cat has made puddles around it and drank a couple times but again, that was the first few days only. Im going to try a drinkwell. ok for a little while On: 2009-05-02I bought one of these a few years ago. It worked for a couple of weeks very well and a few more weeks ok and then not at all. The valve is very fragile. Soon, I had to turn it up all the way to make it bubble at all and then the valve simply broke and it no longer bubbles. The cats (I have a few) took a few days to warm up to the bubbler. It slightly mists them in the face and I think that was the reason they did not like it at first. After a few days, they did seem to like it. One of my cats is a splasher and the bubbles only made him want to splash more. I could not fill the tank or else I risked being forced to mop my kitchen each morning. On the upside, this proved that the tank held quite a bit of water. My other problem is that the plug is ok if your outlets are on the floor but if they are like my kitchen and are at the height of the countertops, you may have issues. I had to rig a little stand to sit the pump on so that the cord would reach. Otherwise, the pump would dangle from the cord and the vibration of the pump will make it constantly bang into the wall. Cleaning is not easy with this either. The unit has to be assembled to fit perfectly and there are a series of tubes that are snapped into place in the bottom of the dish. The tubes are small and parts are easily lost. You have to clean them with those small tobacco pipe cleaner brushes. If you lose the caps to the tubes there will not be enough pressure to push the air through the tubes and produce bubbles. The one convenient feature to cleaning is that all of the "dirty" parts are completely submersible since the pump is external. I would have liked this much better if the valve had just held out and kept on bubbling! I have just taken out all of the tubes and fill the tank to water while I am away. Better than FreshFlow On: 2009-04-23I bought this to replace my old Freshflow Fountain, which had died after four years of loyal service. Maybe I was lucky, but all 5 cats took to it very well and drink from it frequently. Its a lot easier to clean than the FreshFlow because there are no tricky crevices for cat hair and gunk to get stuck in. Theres also no worry of the air pump breaking down due to low water levels because the air pump is separate from the water. The reservoir is also huge and its great to fill it up with filtered water and not worry about it for about a week. I recommend using only filtered water for this because 1) theres no built in filter and 2) hard water will cause calcium build up in the little pipes and clog up the bubble holes. Most of my cats were used to bubbling water from the FreshFlow, so maybe thats why they took to this fountain so quickly. Our kitten drinks from it, but it took her a long time to trust it and she still sometimes tries to drink from the toilet. If your cat has never used a pet fountain before, this might be a little intimidating. the bubbler On: 2009-04-16My cat took a few days to warm up to the idea of drinking from a bubbling water dish but now likes it. My goal was to keep him out of the sink and tub... that hasnt worked completely, but Ive seen an improvement. The knob that adjusts the level of the bubbling doesnt work too well so the bubbles are very small and too few. This is fine for my cat but others may want more. Water Overflows! On: 2009-04-11I think the one I received is defective because the water overflows. For the first two weeks it was working fine, then all of a sudden I woke up in the morning and stepped into a huge puddle of water in my living room because all the water overflowed. I refilled it again and it appeared to be working, but a couple of hours later the same thing - the water just continued to overflow. Not cool. too noisy On: 2009-04-08The concept is great, but the bubbler is too loud, so my cat doesnt use it. Petmate Ultra Bubbler On: 2009-03-31This product has a nice soothing sound as the water bubbles other than that there is nothing good about it. This product has leaked water all over my floor at least 3 times for no apparent reason so it does me no good. It is currently stored on a shelf with a bunch of other stuff I am going to get rid up. A waste of money! Bubbler On: 2009-03-18It definately bubbles! My animals took about a week to get used to it but they enjoy it now. The nozel to adjust bubble flow didnt work just as past reviews stated and it is a bit noisy. Otherwise I am happy with the amount of water it holds, how it keeps the water fresh and its ease of use. Cool Idea On: 2009-03-12I decided on this instead of a normal watering thing because of the bubbles. The one I got puts out a pretty decent amount of air bubbles. The pump is not loud at all. I dont know why some reviews said it was... I have two rottweilers and they both took to it pretty quickly. At first they were a little bit apprehensive about the pump and bubbles, but within a few hours they are drinking out of it fine. Every time they go near it and sniff around or drink I have been praising them. It is also very easy to clean. My only complaint is that the pump has to go behind it. I think it would have been better if they had put a little compartment underneath the water tank. Overall I think it is a good product and I would recommend it to most people. Petmate Ultra Bubbler On: 2009-03-05The bubbler arrived very quickly. And was in great condition. Easy to set up and use. I have had it for over a month and my cat still hasnt drank out of it. He has played in the water but seems to be afraid of it. So I put it down for the dogs to use since my cat was peeing in their water bowl and all are happy. I have given my cat a small tupperware bowl to drink out of for the time. Maybe he will learn from the dogs that it is ok to drink from it. Otherwise I will eventually buy something else for him to drink from like one that has water that trickles down like a faucet. That seems to be what he likes. I still think it is a good product, just not for my cat. Bebbler for our cat On: 2009-03-04We ordered this type of watering bowl after going through three of the type that have a waterfall effect. They would only last a short time before they would not work anymore. So far we have had this one for over a month and we love it. Our cat loves playing in the bubbling water. It does make noise but I love it because it sounds like a fountain. Our cat was never afraid of it. It is also nice because it holds an enormous amount of water in it, so we are not putting new water in every few days. Good Product for the Price On: 2009-02-23We bought the Bubbler because one of our kittens was drinking out of the fish tank and refused to drink from her bowl. It took her a little while to get used to the Bubbler, but now she likes it and is drinking more water. This product is very easy to use. Took less than five minutes to set up and is simple to refill and clean. Some of the reviewers complain that it is too loud, but we havent experienced that problem. It makes about the same amount of noise as an air pump for a fish tank because that is what it uses for a motor to circulate the water. Bottom line: we are satisfied with this product and would recommend it to others. DO NOT BUY THIS!!! On: 2009-01-22We bought this bubbler for our two cats around Christmas. The night that we set it up, one of my cats ate the rubber air hose! If cats like plastic straws and rubber bands, why would a manufacturer create this bowl with a rubber tube?! My cat was just chewing on the hose, and as he was chewing...it broke off into sharp little pieces, which my cat swallowed. We had to rush him to emergency surgery so that they could remove the 20+ pieces of 1-inch tubing from his stomach (I have pictures). Our vet was just as upset about this product as we were. It cost us $1300! We tried to contact the manufacturer to make them aware so that they could fix the problem and/or help pay our vet bill, but they just said it was my cats fault for swallowing the tube! This is a strong product liability case, but unfortunately pets are considered property in the state of Georgia. PLEASE SAVE YOUR PET AND DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! NOISY! On: 2009-01-09I would love to know how other people who have indicated this unit is not noisy are using it. It is EXTREMELY noisy, regardless of how Im holding it or how the pump is positioned. I am definitely returning it. Very disappointed. SO NOISY! cant adjust bubbling! On: 2009-01-07This thing is NOISY its as noticeable as a cheap dishwasher running in a room! Im going to keep it though, I assume I will get used to the constant humming sound of the motor as well as bubbling sound of the water. My cats have just been staring at it so Im not sure if they will use it or not. It says you can control the bubble amount but the knob only turns a tiny bit and I cant tell a difference in the amount of bubbles coming out. It is a nice alternative to buying a filter guzzling waterer. Nice, but far from perfect. On: 2008-12-22Ive had this about a month so far. The air pump has to be located just right or it,s noisy. The pump cant be touching anything. The inside of the air tubes is already showing signs of some sort of build-up. The water in the dish does look cleaner. Cannot wait to give this one to my sister for her birthday On: 2008-12-18I probably have neurotic animals, but all my cats and both dogs were petrified of this thing. They simply refused to drink. The dogs reverted to the toilet as they always do, and I am not sure what the cats did, but they sure would not use this thing. It is extremely noisy. I do not mind camping by a bubbling brook or bouncing on a water bed, but the constant roar of something like a mini-Niagra Falls was a bit much. Also, and this may because I am a complete klutz when hooking stuff up, but the little thingy valve on the hose attachment broke when I tried to attach it and I had to take the first one back for a replacement. The one I have now is in the car shed where it will stay until my sister has a birthday and I will be able to rewrap it and give it to her so that her animals can be terrified and thereby causing her much grief; something I enjoy immensely. I am giving this one two stars though as it will bring me great pleasure when I give it to my sister. Great Product On: 2008-12-16Great product. High capacity for longer periods between refills. Pump is too noisy, but worth it for the results. It is EXTREMELY noisy, but works otherwise alright On: 2008-12-08This bubbler works as advertised but is EXTREMELY noisy. I could hear the bubbler loud and clear on the third floor when it is in the kitchen on the first floor. I got a shock when i switched it on the first time, the noise is annoying and nearly deafening. I regret buying this bubbler totally and would not recommend it to anyone. Wonderful Water Fountain On: 2008-12-05This water fountain is great. My cats (a long hair and short hair tabby) were a little skeptical at first due to the bubbles, but got used to it in less than an hour. I love how much water it holds - I only have to refill it every week and a half or so. The air pump is noiser than expected but its no louder than the refrigerator so its easily tuned out. The only time Ive noticed it being too loud was when it got knocked on its side until I moved it right side up. The air nozzle knob that controls the air bubbles doesnt seem to have a wide range of pressures and is stiff to turn. After finding a tolerable level for my cats, I left it alone to ease my frustration. Cleaning is a breeze (I just clean it with a regular soap dispensing brush)and I havent noticed clumps of hair or food congregating in the bowl like I did with an ordinary standing water bowl. Overall, I think this product is perfect for anyone wanting to have fresher, cleaner water for their animals. GREAT PRODUCT, GREAT PRICE! On: 2008-12-03MY CATS LOVE THIS WATER BOWL AND SO DO I. GREAT PRICE, I DIDNT PAY SHIPPING AND IT ARRIVED THE NEXT DAY. IT WAS SUPER EASY TO PUT TOGETHER AND I HAVE HAD IT RUNNING FOR A WHILE WITH NO PROBLEMS, ITS ALSO VERY EASY TO CLEAN AND REFILL. MY CATS LOVE IT BECAUSE ITS FRESH WATER AND IT MAKES A SOOTHING BUBBLING SOUND LIKE A WATER FOUNTAIN. THE UNIT IS ALSO NOT HUGE AND DOESNT TAKE UP A LOT OF SPACE, ITS AS BIG AS THE 5 GALLON LE BISTRO WATER BOWL. ONCE YOU SET UP THE HOSE AND PLUG IT IN, YOU NEVER HAVE TO TOUCH IT AGAIN. THAT PART HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FILLING AND CLEANING OF THE RESOVOIR. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THIS WAS A GREAT BUY AND I HIGHLY RECOMEND IT. No filters, no mess and my cat is drinking more water. I absolutely love it! Petmate watering system On: 2008-10-16The item performs as it should. However, the cats dont particularly like it. They dont drink water from it or even play with the bubbles. It would be helpful if the bubble level would adjust lower than it does and maybe theyd use it as a regular water bowl. Im not sure that its worth the money for me. However, you never know how cats will react to a new thing. I have a young cat and an older cat and both are pretty oblivious to it. Nice little bubbler. On: 2008-09-25I thought my cats would love this item because they love to drink from the faucet. And the other reviews were mostly favorable. It is easy to clean, and its nice that it holds quite a bit of water. That being said, my cats dont love it as much as I thought they would. The pump doesnt circulate the water; it pumps in air making the water bubble. I think theyd prefer a fountain that really circulates the water. Im going to let my dog try it next. AWESOME PRODUCT!! On: 2008-09-19I have 6 cats, and they LOVE it! :) It is fresher and healthier for my babies. A+++++++ product! water bubbler On: 2008-08-02i love the dog bubbler. i know it is advertised for cats, and my cat likes it but the dogs love it. of course it takes some getting used to, they were all a little scared at first, but it is the most quiet pump i ever had, it keeps the water fresh, cold and healthy. cleaning it is easy, the refilling of it could have been designed better, but it holds enough water for a week for 3 small dogs and a cat. for the price, it is great. it cost way more in the pet stores, so buying it on line is the cheapest way to go. Hallelujah!! On: 2008-07-18I am THRILLED with this bubbler.....no costly filters that get gross and gunky within a week. And, since the pump is not in the water, it doesnt need to be cleaned either. Holds at least a weeks worth of water for both of my cats and they love it. The first night they were a bit scared, like they are with anything new, but by the time I got home from work the next day, theyd already make friends with it and drink more than ever. It doesnt get dirty, though dishwasher safe, and is a snap to fill with more water. Couldnt be happier!!!! SUPER ITEM On: 2008-05-09I should have started at AMAZON instead of ending up there. This is exactly what I was looking for. So far I'm glad I got this thing.... On: 2008-03-21I once tried one of those other ones and it was a huge pain in all the ways everyone says. So far though Im very glad I happened to see this on clearance at Petsmart for 24.99. I have always wanted to get a fountain for my cat but I figured they would all be a waste of money like the first one I tried. Anyway, I have only had this for about a week, but so far this is why Im very happy with it: Very easy to set up, holds lots of water, no pump-hum noise, just pleasant slight bubbling noise(like a tabletop fountain), and my cat takes long big drinks now. Ive had her for 13 years and Ive never seen her drink so much water at one sitting! The first time I set it up she sat and stared into the bowl for about 20 minutes. I was hoping she would try it but I wasnt sure if she would. Also, upon first setting it up it did take until the next day for the bowl to fill all the way up. At first only about a half inch of water flowed into it and the bubbles were noisier. I dont really know why it took so long for it to fill the bowl up. But once it did, and the cat decided it was worth a try, and I saw her take that long drink like she did, I was so glad I got it!! I washed it before first use and it was simple to clean. Hope this helps! One more thing...I just noticed that there is another company that has this exact same fountain but they are charging like 130.00!! That company is Stylette. Its the same exact thing as this one, which I see is on Amazon.com for only about 25.00. Bubbles pop in cat's face On: 2008-02-29I decided to buy this because it didnt use a filter. I use filtered water, so I didnt need the additional filter in the machine. Also, I used a Drinkwell in the past, and the water had tiny black flecks floating in it from the filter. I got this set up pretty easily, but saw right away that it bubbled too much. My cats would not go near it. There is soposed to be a knob at the back that turns the bubbles down, but mine would not turn. I finally tied a loose knot in the hose and it turned the bubbles down. However, whenever one of my cats tried to drink out of it, the bubbles popped in her face. So far none of my three cats have taken a drink from it. Im returning it and using the Drinkwell without the filter, at least they were not afraid of it. No filter required! On: 2008-02-27I bought this because it does not use a filter - previous fountains would get smelly mildewed filters after a week or less, even with constant cleaning of the fountain & pump. So, the filter-less action and pump that isnt submerged are definitely positives. It also holds plenty of water to last if I am not home for a few days, and it is very easy to clean & dissemble/reassemble. However, mine barely bubbles, certainly nothing like I expected. Every once in a while, a short stream of tiny bubbles will come out of a single hole in the tubing. Other than that - nothing. The air pump makes a little more noise than Id like - it vibrates audibly even on a soft surface. Slightly annoying sometimes but bearable. I am keeping the product & may try some modifications to the tubing myself. Even if the bubbling never works as Id hoped, its still a decent water bowl, & its wide enough that my cat can drink out of it without sneezing. It also seems to stay cleaner longer than the fountain I had before - there isnt any slime or scale build-up at all. My cat likes it, and it's a breeze to clean. On: 2008-02-16When my Pet Mate Fresh Flow fountain bit the dust, I tried this bubbler. My cat doesnt have a problem with it - the water seems to stay fresher longer and the bubble-noise doesnt bother him, although for the first few hours he just sat and stared at it. Theres a little control knob on the back you can use to change the amount of bubbling and I did finally find a good mid-point where the bubbles are more calm than on high and the sound is moderate (the control knob is tight and finding a good mid-point took a few attempts). By "sound", I dont mean its really really noisy, but on high its louder than I liked considering the placement of the bubbler in our house. Its always been difficult to get my cat to drink a lot of water and although the Pet Mate fountain helped, hes noticeably drinking more now. Maintenance-wise, this bubbler is a breeze to clean, unlike the Pet Mate fountain which was a pain in the neck. No filters are needed for the bubbler, no tiny brushes for getting into hard-to-reach places. Would have been nice to be able to fill it from the top, but I guess its not a big deal considering that removing the water tank is easy anyway and nothing spills, and if you filled it from the top without having to remove the tank you might not clean the bowl as often as you should, so I guess there was a method to their madness. Handy dandy waterer as far as Im concerned, and the main thing is my cat actually uses it. Way too loud On: 2008-02-03The pump was so loud, that I couldnt use it. And, it doesnt hold much water, I like LeBistro much better - even if it doesnt have water movement. This unit was just not user friendly, since my cats were scared of the noise it put off. He started off a little scared, and then he wanted to play with the water, and now he is drinking normally out of it. I dont know if the cats like drinking from it QUITE as much as from the fountain type but they definitely drink a lot more than from a bowl, so Im calling it good enough. This is a much simpler and easier to deal with system if your cats will go for it. You definitely need to give them something besides a plain bowl of water or they WILL NOT drink enough. You can save yourself some grief if you do something to encourage them to drink. The cats have never been scared by the bubbling sound. Two of our cats are Bengals and though they love to play in water they havent really played much with the Bubbler, which is fine with us. We were looking for something that would provide a reasonable alternative to stale water dishes and this is it. It is simple, too. A word of caution, though: I broke the valve that is used to regulate the bubble action when I was setting it up. I pulled the valve out and hooked it up directly to the pump. Its fine and as I said, the cats arent afraid of it. We recommend it, but be careful of the valve, its pretty primitive and doesnt offer much adjustment. The other would sit and stare at it off and on for three days. Neither has taken a drink from it. But thats the way of cats. I give it 3 stars because it does indeed work as promised. And even after a week the water appears clean. I cant say the same happens with the other two namebrand cat fountains that I have. There was no plastic smell except for a rather strong one in the soft plastic tube that runs from the pump to the connection on the bowl. But it didnt seem to alter the water any. But I dont have the nose of a cat. I didn't like it; cat didn't like it. On: 2007-03-01This is a great idea, but I think it might need more tweaking. The reservoir holds a lot of water, which is good, but there is no filter. So any cat hair, stray food, or whatever your 18-month-old might be trying to throw will end up in the bowl. Then it sits there, usually after sinking to the bottom, until you dig it out. Also, with mine at least, you had to fiddle with it and fiddle with it to get any real bubbles to appear. A shame, since the cat really did like the few bubbles I was able to coax out. If this somehow filtered the water AND made bubbles, Id be all over it (like cat hair on a pastel couch). It took a couple days for my cats to get used to (they were a little afraid of the bubbles at first, so it was nice that I can adjust the bubbling level). But theyre drinking from it now, and Im glad to have fresh water for them all the time. But my beef is, it is overpriced. The first one I bought was broken (cheap plastic). I had to take apart the second one to get it to work. And I discovered it is nothing more than an overpriced aquarium bubbler. Unless youre looking for something with a large reservoir, just buy your own pump and secure it to the bowl. Wonderful product! On: 2007-02-01I have 3 cats and have owned the other brand named pet fountain with the filtration system. I gave up on it after the constant cleanings, and the cat hair in the water and filter. The motor burned out I think because the water level was low. The bubbler took my cats getting used to. It makes more noise than the prior fountain but after 3 days they have adapted and enjoy it. One cat sleeps right next to it. I think he enjoys the sound of it (like a brook running water). I highly recommend this product. It was easy to set up, the water tank needs filling about once per week, and its easy to clean. Pet Bubble Fountain On: 2007-01-09After having the filter type pet water fountain, I was looking for something that was easier to keep clean, and less expensive to maintain. After reading the reviews I decided to give this one a try. There were a couple of reviews that made me feel a bit cautious, but after some thought I decided to move forward with the purchase anyway. These fountains are really great for keeping pets hydrated. Ive had the fountain for over a month now. It works great. I have not had any of the problems the other reviewers mentioned. Its been very easy to keep clean, and its not extremely noisy. My cats are enjoying it and drinking more which is what I wanted; so Im one happy pet owner. The Bubbler Works On: 2007-01-08After doing tons of research on many different models, I bought the Bubbler. Many of the other product reviews talked about difficulty of cleaning and the necessity of keeping the water at a certain level. I personally dont believe that water filtration is a big deal. Cats just want water that tastes fresh and is reasonably clean. Within minutes of the arrival of the Bubbler, I had it up and running. The water tank is large and holds a great deal of water. This is important if you have more than one pet drinking out of it. Right away, my cats were attracted to the sound. One of my cats sat beside it and played with the water for 20-30 minutes. The reason I started looking for this product is that my tabletop water fountain died and my cats had always got their drinks from it. The Bubbler makes a lovely little bubbling sound very much like my table top fountain. Because of its placement in my kitchen, all of my 3 cats and 3 dogs drink from it. It is easy to clean and disassemble and reassemble. I believe the tank and reservoir can be placed in the dishwasher if desired. I like the fact that I dont have to fill it every day. Plus, since the pump is separate from the water, you dont have to worry about the pump burning up when the water is low. I have found nothing to complain about. I would recommend this to any one without reservation. Just got my Bubbler On: 2006-10-19[UPDATE: I take everything I said in this review back. After a week, my cats didnt drink any noticeable amount from the Bubbler. They were interested for a few days (which is when I wrote this review), but after a couple of weeks I had to pack it back up and get it out of the kitchen. With my kitties, I think its because they dont like plastic. It seems they only drink from porcelain. I dont think they would like the other products on the market made of plastic either.] I just read the last review that said the hose cracked and Ill be keeping an eye on this with my new Bubbler. It seems to me that if the hose cracks, its easy enough to replace at the local hardware store, but the hose I received seems to be in very good condition so Im not too worried yet. Heres my full review: I once had a Fresh Flow and it quickly got dirty mostly with cat hair. The other reviews are correct in saying it is very difficult to clean. I just received a fountain called The Bubbler which was recommended by another reader at Amazon. Fantastic product and I would highly recommend getting this instead of the Fresh Flow or the Drinkwell. It does NOT have water filtration, which is fine with me. I think the other two fountains have to have filters to help with all the cat hair that gets stuck in it. Instead, The Bubbler has a base, a one-gallon reservoir, an external pump, and a hose. Those are all the parts! The reservoir is cleverly designed so I DIDNT SPILL A DROP while placing the reservoir on the base. It looks like both main parts are heavy plastic and dishwasher-safe. Im sure the small hose can be run under hot water with soap and that does it for cleaning. Since the pump is external and doesnt actually come into contact with the water...it doesnt clog and NEVER NEEDS TO BE CLEANED. The pump simply pushes air to two hoses that emerge from the bottom of the base. This creates bubbling action in the bowl. Its very quiet from fifteen feet away while I type this, I can barely hear it. It sounds like a far-off hum from here, and something bubbling up close. The pump doesnt make any noise that I can hear AT ALL!. I needed a fountain because my kitties dont drink enough water. I dont care if its filtered water or not, I dont mind cleaning the bowl. The Bubbler creates the movement that is already attracting them to drink more. So far Im very pleased. Unlike the other reader who commented, I was not able to find The Bubbler at the grocery store for $15. I paid about $32 including shipping and Im very happy with the results. don't bother - it won't bubble On: 2006-10-19I bought and returned 3 of these in one week. The first one never bubbled, the second one bubbled for 10 mins and the third one bubbled for 3 minutes. The valve and hose attachment is poorly designed and cracks when the bubbler is assembled. The pet store where I bought this said they are constantly returned and suggested another type of pet fountain. Save yourself the return postage and look at another brand. better and cheaper than Drinkwell On: 2006-10-05I first bought another brand of these called the Drinkwell. With the optional resevoir and cleaning kit and with shipping it cost me $70. The Drinkwell has a relatively loud pump noise that comes from under the bowl part which spooked the cats the first few days (ands drives me nuts so I have to unplug it at night even though its three rooms away from my bedroom). but once they got over the noise, the cats loved it so much that I would have liked a second (I have multiple food/water stations) but the price made that impossible. The other day I was at my local grocery store and they had this Bubbler for $14.99. I couldnt believe it and snatched one up. Let me say, this one is not only considerably cheaper, but holds more water than the Drinkwell, is easier to clean than the Drinkwell and is quieter than the Drinkwell. I so regret spending that much money on the Drinkwell now. The Bubbler air pump is not in the bowl, it connects to it by a hose so the little bit of noise from it is far enough away as to not spook the cats. The noise it does makes reminds me of those water fountains people put in their homes now, its just the sound of air bubbles in water. Theres only two pieces, the bowl and tank, and both go in my dishwasher. The Drinkwell, has multiple parts, plus you have to clean the pump itself, and buying the cleaning kit is a must to get into the corners and angles that are all over the various pieces. Plus the Drinkwell uses filters which have to be changed. No filters in the Bubbler. I take in strays and have 14 cats at the moment. I so wish I have found the Bubbler first so that I could have bought one for each feeding station I have rather than have spent so much on one Drinkwell. |
