A fine product     On: 2008-03-27

My dog actually likes this "travel" crate more than her normal one. It seems sturdy enough (but I have a rather calm dog), is simple to put up and take down, and works well for the purposes that I bought it for.

It is slightly annoying, however, that the front and back panels are so difficult to collapse. I have to bend panels and really force it.
Pretty good, but careful if planning on travelling     On: 2008-03-18

This appears to be a great carrier, with gaurantees of ease of travel, but be forewarned on a couple of points:
1. They do not stand by their "approved for airline travel" gaurantee. In fact, I called them and their representative did a thorough job of ensuring that I felt quite alone.
2. If you are relying on the metal door that was sent along with it, dont. I needed two of these dens, and BOTH of the metal doors that arrived with it were cracked and would only fit on the den if they were wedged on. They were useless enough that I threw them out in disgust. They were, incidentally, also not covered by Nylabones promise of quality.

That being said, I liked the easy set up and breakdown. Because the doors are unique to this structure, if you have the traditional clip on cups for pets to eat out of you will need to modify them somewhat. I spent about 15 minutes with a dremel tool cutting and trimming some of the plastic on the door to allow the cups to be placed on securely (something that I wish would already have been allowed for, but if you have the tool its not a big deal).

The square design makes it feel more spacious than regular dens and Id recommend it for most folks who are not using them for airline travel. If you are, prepare to explain that the minor differences wont compromise the shipper, and make sure you have their latest FAQ on whats allowed on hand. Its a good den, all in all.
Great for miniature schnauzer     On: 2008-02-22

After doing quite a bit of research and reading lots of reviews on the right dog crate for my 4 month old miniature schnauzer, I purchased this crate. The one review about it being a bit difficult to assemble...well, it did take two hands and a one leg, but after assembled, Im quite pleased with the crate. Very roomy and gives my pup lots of room to move around. It would be excellent if they also sold cushions that fit.
Great Item, Nice Looking Too     On: 2008-01-28

I just got this item on Friday, snapped it together in a few minutes, put the blankets in and my little Min Pin jumped in and loved it. We just adopted him 2 weeks and they let us borrow a black metal crate and he used to chew on the sides, with this one, he feels protected and safe. We call it his little condo. We got the medium one, even though he is only 7 lbs and will never get any bigger than that, but with the extra few inches I think he really likes it. The smaller crate we borrowed made him feel anxious. So for a few bucks more, buy the medium one if you have a small dog like mine. Looks good too. I like the fact that it folds down and we can store it anywhere, great for when we travel and he comes with us and has his own "room". Best buy ever for my dog. A++++++++++
Perfect create for our needs     On: 2008-01-20

We own two of these - one for each of our beagles. We think theyre great, and have a lot of advantages to other crates.

It does take a while to get the collapsing and expanding of the crates down, but when collapsed they REALLY collapse. Whenever we travel with the dogs, we put both beagles in one crate in the back seat of our Civic and the other on the floor of the trunk where it hardly takes up any space at all. I dont think wed be able to take both crates with us if wed chosen a different type of crate.

The box-like shape of these crates is also something I like. One advantage of this is that we can stack the crates on top of each other, saving us floor space. I dont know if they were really designed for stacking, but we havent had any problems with them shifting and the dogs dont seem to mind in the least.
Good home for our Corgi     On: 2007-12-29

I was able to set this carrier up in about 30 seconds after we got it out of the box without any instructions. It seems pretty straight forward but definitely requires two hands. I didnt find it particularly awkward as noted by another reviewer. The extra metal reinforced door is tighter that the one the carrier comes with as noted by another reviewer as well and we chose to use the all plastic door which opens easier. We have two dogs and Ill be ordering another one for our second dog.

Once set up it does a fine job and the price is realistic and it is not too heavy. There are plenty of air holes without rendering the panels flimsy. I like that it came with an optional steel reinforced door at no additional cost. I could not find another hard plastic crate for a 30# dog that folded flat for travel. The carrier, however, is difficult to set up - it takes one hand to hold the top up, another one to reach in and grab the panels and another one to provide resistance so the panels snap into place. Collapsing it is similarly cumbersome. Once folded flat it is awkward to carry as the top and bottom panels do not snap into one another - it comes with a flimsy velco strap which, if positioned in the middle, sort of works, but I had to buy two cinch straps. Once folded it can only be carried by its handle so you are carrying a horizontally flat package, not a vertically flat package - again awkward.

Almost as good as the previous version

In general, the Nylabone fold away den is great. I found the newer model to be less convenient as far as putting it together and breaking it down. Plus, the front gate is plastic, whereas the previous version was metal. This model did come with a "heavy duty" door with reinforced metal, but it is tighter to open and close. I liked the older model better. But this one is still pretty good since it looks and feels like a "den" and not a fence, like the typical crates.

Excellent crate/home for 8 month old Shitzu

Our dog just loves his new sleeping quarters. He does not complain or whine when he is put to bed at different intervals. It is an excellent, lightweight home away from home also when we take him on road trips. It is very durable, showing no marks that he has attempted to chew it, for he is a heavy chewer of things otherwise.
