![]() Oster A5 Turbo 2-Speed Professional Animal Clipper By: Oster Average Rating: 4.0 Total Reviews: 53 More Information Very good set of clippers I decided to splurge and get a good set of dog clippers, and Im so glad I did. I have a St. Bernard (long coat), and Ive destroyed a couple of $25 clippers I got at Target on her coat. I figured getting these clippers and a broad clipper head (take down quick, or something like that) would be cheaper than paying a professional dog groomer to get rid of the poor things tangles and I was right! The set up: my dog is an outside dog, and hadnt been properly bathed or brushed in months. Before you call the SPCA on me, it is not a usual occurrence, but I didnt do much bathing or brushing of her in my last few months of pregnancy, and once the baby was here forget it. My husband doesnt really bother to do any dog grooming, so her coat was awful by the time I got to it. Dreadlocks, mats, just yuck. It took two sessions with the clippers, because after about 15 minutes of bushwhacking through her tangles it got hot enough I had to shut it off (I didnt think that was unreasonable - were talking impenetrable forest of fur here, and it managed to cut through it). After the second session she was happily shorn, much cooler, and I felt less guilty by far. Yay clippers! And having them handy means shell never get that bad again. Definitely worth the $$. Well worth it. The speed and ease of using these clippers made getting my Golden Retriever/Lab mix trimmed for summer exceptionally fast and easy. A must for all Dog owners that do their own grooming I use this on both my Border Collie and Mini Schnauzer. Dont mess around with the light weight ones purchased at your local discount stores. This item works just like the ones at the groomers. The animals are less stressed and so am I as the owner. I did purchase a set of different length combs for the longer hair areas. Sort of pleased Delivery was quick. The clippers work well, but they advertise that they stay "cool" but they do not. After about 15 minutes of grooming, they get so hot you cant touch the dog with them. :( Plenty of power I needed a clipper to clip my Great Pyrenees dog whos coat is so thick that she feels like a sheep when her coat less than a inch long. I have purchased several clippers that couldnt do the job. The Oster A5 Turbo 2-Speed worked great!! It lost 1 star because the head is a bit wider than ordinary so the combs from other clippers wont fit & it didnt come with any. Super Clippers! These clippers are excellent! Our dog is 15yo, I wish I had bought these years ago. Unfortunately, we have suffered through many expensive hair cuts and several sets of much less expensive and much lesser quality clippers. BTW out dog has a very thick double coat, we think she is a samoyed/retriever mix. I was able to shave her in two 20 minute sessions. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, I can not say enough good things about these clippers. Oh, and the price and service through Amazon beats other retailers by a long-shot. Works on my two toy poodles You have to go slow, and the unit does get very warm. But they get the job done where as my human clippers just were to weak to cut poodle hair Great Product! Works great on my long haired American Tabby as well my collie/chow. So fast, they dont mind getting their summer haircuts anymore. Oster A5 Turbo 2-Speed Professional Animal Clipper This is the best set of clippers Ive ever bought. Would recommend them to anyone. Decent clippers but not as good as my 20 yr old Wahl clippers I bought these for my mom so I could clip her little terrier dog at home and save money vs. the groomer. I had been clipping him for years using a 20 yr old pair of middle of the line Wahl clippers that worked great until they died one day. During that time we have been using them about 3 times a year to clip either a mini poodle or a 30 lb terrier and never oiled or cleaned them. Even the last year when the old pair was very slow it still trimmed better than these new things. These clippers are not bad but they do not clip as well as my old pair. I think the quality of materials and build is just lower. They worked well enough and did not get as hot as people said in other reviews. I have not tried any other new clippers and just figured these would be the best you could get. They are decent and I will keep them but think that they should work much better. When I clipp the dogs very hairy feet they sort of miss a lot of hair and dont cut it. I have to move the clippers very slowly and/or go over some areas a few times to cut all the hair. I would try another brand or model if I were buying again. Great experience! I was in a big hurry looking for this product and AMAZON had exactly what I needed, the process was fast and they deliver 1 day before the scheduled time! AWESOME!! This is what professional grade looks and feels like We have two very woolly Cocker Spaniels that need grooming every couple of months to keep their coats from matting and shedding excessively. At $50 each with my local groomer + $15-$20 tip this is quite an expense. We also moved recently so we started cutting back on non-essentials. Unfortunately for my dogs, that meant almost 6 months without a good hair cut. Needless to say their coats were horribly matted and long, and they started to feel miserable with the warm weather just arriving. After some serious research I decided to purchase a set of clippers and settled on these Oster A5 Turbo clippers to begin doing my own grooming, hoping to save money in the long run. Well, Im happy to say these puppies (no pun intended) basically paid for themselves on the very first use. They power right through the thickest mattes and the included blades are precisely the right size for my Cockers hair length. With just a little practice you can even modulate the angle of the cutting blades for either shorter or longer trims. The A5 Turbos construction is heavy duty all around, and I like the dual speed switch for when you need to slow down a bit to trim around faces or feet. They do get a bit hot but only the casing, never the blades, and the dogs didnt even notice. The best part? My dogs look almost exactly like they do when I pick them up from the groomer. I honestly dont know why on Earth I didnt invest on clippers like these before. I kick myself in the rear every time I think about all the money I could have saved... If youre even considering doing your own dogs grooming, get these Oster clippers today. Youll be glad you did. Ouch!! HOT!! I bought these clippers this past summer after owning a pair of A5s over 15 years ago that worked great, only to find these are not well made like the oldies. This clipper heats up so much that in less than 10 minutes I had to set them down to cool as my hand was beginning to get too hot and my animal was jumping all over the place. I even had back up blades to snap on, and they only stayed cool for a few more minutes before they were boiling hot too! I took the clippers back and got another pair thinking it was maybe just the unit and discovered that it is ALL the Turbo A5s, not just a defective unit. Its too bad, Oster used to be "The" clipper to have and now I am looking for something else to use instead. We use these clippers on dairy goats for trimming up udders and legs, so theres not a lot of thick hair, I cant imagine how horrible theyd be trying to go through thick dog fur!! NOT RECOMMENDED Quite and Sharp! We have two schnauzers that we have been grooming for almost 5 years. We have had some success with other brands, but none that matches these. The clippers are quite and cut with one pass. I found that by the time I am on the second schnauzer, the blades can get hot. But, if you keep them cool with the spray, its not a problem. This was worth the money! They pay for themselves after 2 grooms. Clips Great....but VERY HOT! Well the good news is that this clipper clips great, but the bad news is that it gets really hot, really fast! I did body clip two ponies and one horse with these clippers since I bought them, and the way they clip is great, but I had to take many breaks due to the clippers getting so hot. Great clipper but does get pretty warm My miniature schnauzer has some seriously thick hair and the clippers cut great but, I have to start at his head because by the time the clippers have been going for twenty minutes I am scared that they are too hot to go on his head but, I will say that the heat has not seemed to phase him at least on the rest of his body. Still a great clipper! Great Clipper... when it's working. When it is working, this clipper cuts through my poodles hair beautifully. HOWEVER, several times it has just stopped cutting, even though the blades are moving (just snags the hair). The blades must come out of alignment or something. A couple of times they have magically resolved, but right now, the clipper is completely out of commission, even though if you look at it running, you would think nothing was wrong with it. The blades arent dull - it is too new. I have tried everything, opening it up, cleaning it, realigning, lubricating - nothing works. The Oster people said to send it back. I hope they replace it. Maybe its a lemon. Otherwise, I worry that they will "fix it" only to have it fail again. The turnaround time is too long for a dubious fix when you have a standard poodle! Oster Turbo A5 2 speed Take the dog to the groomer and the dogs are caged until the groomer can do them. Example: Groomer states appt. is at 10 but you dont get the dogs back until 5!!! That means they are caged for hours. My dogs are much happier being groomed at home vs. sitting in cages for hours...It takes me about 45 minutes to bathe and groom each of my dogs. This is a great way to keep your dogs well groomed and at a fraction of the cost as a groomer! I have 2 dogs and this paid for itself within first 2 uses. Easy to use. Convenient and well worth the cost! Only small problems BUT WONDERFUL! I have done my owen show grooming since I was 13 and , now in my 20s, still love "Oster" clippers! I have had other clippers over the last three years that just didnt work very well at all. Trying to save money and groom my dogs and cats at home, I was buying $30.00 to $40.00 clippers at wal-mart, pet-co, and petsmart. None of the less expensive clippers would cut through their hair. I got the Oster clippers knowing how well I loved them through the years. In a friend grooming shop I tried these and one other top brand, I think it was Andis. The Andis did not get so hot on the blade after 20 min of clipping but it did get VERY hot on my hand. I gave These clippers 4 stars rater than 5 for 2 reasons. 1) the blade does get hot after15 min of grooming. and 2) the opening for the motor blows fine hair into the air. I DO recomend these still even for people grooming at home. The 15 min it takes to get hot, if your not done yet, your pet would love to "think they escaped from this evil thing you have,LOL. The hair that does blow around is not that much in reality. I always have to take a shower after I am done anyway. I try to clip outside so the hair is not ANY problem inside. These clippes are so easy to change blades and do not get hot on my hand. I do suggest that you get two blades of the size you use most, that way when they do get to hot for your pet you can just change the blade out (it takes like 5 seconds). The problems with these clippers that I noted on are commen with Oster clippers, but the oly reason why I didnt have my old ones was they got picked up by a smart body who wanted them a whole lot! The 3 pairs I had up till 5 years ago lastes me 9 years and where used by a close friend for 3 years before they where given to me. With cleaning and oil they last well past their worth! Little warmer than expected I was pretty disappointed for my latest OSTER experience. I have had plenty of good experiences with OSTER in the past and it was definitely time to be put my Wahl trimmer to rest. This product produced excessive heat at both the head and body after only 10 minutes of extended use. My Australian Sheppard would whimper every time I came close to him with this shaver. I expected better performance with these CryogenX blades with AgION antimicrobial coatings. My wife attempted to oil blades since the unit was new to attempt to help the situation. Little change observed with the oil. I was disappointed with the owners manual as well. It offered little advice and the drawings were a bit crude to follow. We decided to order a replacement unit from Amazon which is currently in route. I will update this posting again when second unit arrives. 6/27/09 Update - Amazon return service was fantastic. New clipper arrived within 72 hours. No problem processing my return. I really like the fact that UPS came to my door to pickup. Second clipper performs better but not optimal. Blade and top of body still get a little warmer than expected. Tolerable. I have an Australian Sheppard with a pretty thick coat. Trimmer muscles through with NO problems. Gave my dog his summer cut to enjoy this +100 degree heat in Texas in less than 30 minutes. Plan to buy another blade with longer combs to make bulk cutting a bit faster for his main body. Overall I would change my review score to THREE STARS. fast clipper this clipper works great on thick hard to cut hair dont know how long blades will stay sharp ? didnt notice any heat problems on turbo a5 model Manufacturer replacing Hot unit.- can not change star rating Rather then pay for postage to return to the seller, I contacted Oster regarding the "Hot" issue, My unit is being replaced. as a razor it shaves great. but got hot.. I had to shut it off every few minutes to cool off, it was new. they said that should not be happening & gave me all of the info for a quick replacement. Gets very HOT after a few minutes of use. I bought this based on the Amazon reviews. There are 2 Oster Turbo A5 Two Speed Clippers advertsied on amazon. This one: 078005-314 with rave reviews and another one without the product number. I assumed this was an updated dated version because the other one did not get good reviews because of HOT issues. Either my razor is defective or both are the same one advertised one with item number the other without. As a recently unemployed single mom who decided to do the dog grooming myself to save lots of money...hopefully the seller will quickly replace this unit and its my unit not all of them because as a razor it shaves great. I had to shut it off every few minutes to cool off, and never finished grooming my dog for fear of possible fire. Great Clipper Works great. Dont skimp on the $70 clipper packs as they do not work at all. Just get this and get it over with. Cuts through the densest undercoat!! I have tried several different clippers. NONE could cut through my German Shepherd extremely dense undercoat, until these! They cut through without any problems. I do have to take a few breaks so that they do not overheat. It is not because the clippers are not capable, his coat is just really that thick. It cuts through my Australian Shepherds coat like butter! Oster A5 is a fabulous buy! I purchased an oster A5 clipper 23 years ago, and used it professionally for 12 years, I still have it, and use it for grooming my own dogs, and my friends dogs and cats regularly. After sharpening the blades for around 7 years, I had to buy a new set, and now am looking to replace those. All blades can get hot but a few tricks will keep you and your pet comfortable. Use your vaccuum to get excess hair out that builds up or a blade brush to keep blades hair free. Kool lube is great for cooling off your blades or you can have an x-tra set and switch off. I lay mine on a cool metal surface to help cool them, and work on another area with a different blade if I need to.It still is one of the best purchases I made, and easily maintained when you follow the easy cleaning directions provided, they will last for years!!! A Razor That Cuts Both Ways A razor that cuts both ways--in that I mean that is shaves off the price of taking your furkid to a groomer and it cuts away the restrictions of time--the need to schedule a time to take your critter to a groomer and finding the time to take your furkid in. A first timer to grooming, I was, at first, shaky and jittery and wondering if I had made a mistake in purchasing this clipper. But, after a few timid strokes with the clipper, I gained confidence and got the feel of the clipper and how best to hold and use it. After that, it was such a delight to see the fur fall away and leave a new smooth coat of short, easy to bathe and brush fur. The dog loved being groomed and the cool, clean results and I loved knowing I was saving money with each use. The clipper does get a bit hot, but holding off for a few minutes lets it cool off and you are soon ready to go again. The clipper pays for itself in short-order. great clippers I recently bought these clippers from amazon. They work great. I have an English Springer Spaniel which has quite thick hair. These clippers plowed right through his hair without slowing down. My wife and I were able to give him an decent looking trim considering weve never done it before. My only complaint is that they do seem to get quite hot after using them for a while but it wasnt uncomfortable to handle them. ITS AWESOME I thought It was going to be hard just when I saw the Clipper, I was very scared I was gonna messed up my schnauzers cut but not at all it was very confortable and preety easy and for the price it was even better now I dnt have to waste 51 dollars in my pets groomer anymore!!! IM SOOO HAPPY WITH THIS!!! Oster, gets hot surprisingly fast Im surprised at all the reviews that say this clipper doesnt get hot. So far, Ive only used it to shave my poodles face and feet, and it got very hot. The whole barrel got hotter than the less fancy ones at the grooming salon. The blade got very hot and I was glad I bought a can of cool n lube spray. #10 blade performed well around feet but Im going to get a size 7/8 blade for feet and face for easier detail work. Great Set of Clippers After using these a couple of times on my long thick haired dog I am very pleased with the way they cut. I have tried cheaper sets purchased from pet stores but they would barely cut her hair. I would definitely recommend these. Very good clippers for multiple animal households These are expensive, but worth it. I bought a $80 Andis model at Petsmart and they lasted six months. I have had these for almost a year, and with 3 dogs, and cat, they are great. Only downside is that theyre too big for little faces ( I have 2 shih-tuz and one Lhasa ). I have purchased a set of Oster mini-max for faces, and just use scissors. Havent tried clipper guards or diff. size blades, but the clippers paid for themselves the first usage. At $50 per dog, per groom, a $150 set doesnt seem so outrageous. Dont bother buying anything cheaper if you groom your dog on a regular basis and are trying to save money on a professional groomer. Youll end up buying a new set of clippers every year. Really good clippers This is a really good set of clippers. I have a poodle mix with hair that youd expect to see on a sheep! These clippers dont clog up and they are quiet too! A good investment if you have a dog that needs clipping. Great Clippers, worth higher price. I bought these clippers after using cheaper (~50$) Andis and Oster models for about 2 years. These are far superior - they cut easy and smooth, they do not wear out, and you can actually shrpen their blades at your local pet store. Only one drawback - Plastic adapter kit with different length adapters do not work. I bought original Oster adapter kit, for this cutter and it is impossible to cut the dogs hair with adapter kit. But it is not the clippers fault. Just buy 3 different length blades. they are easy to change. I bought 2 different length blades as my dos needs only 1/16 and 1/2. Also these clippers are soo nice in cutting hair - I almost do not use scissors anymore. Even fine trimming I do with the clippers. disclaimer - I am cutting my own dog, and do not participating in a dog show - I do not use them for comemrcial purposes.. Fantastic I own a shih-tsu and a persian/himalayan. I have tried three previous clipper sets ($30-80) and they were totally worthless. These clippers cut right through matting and knots and leave a nice smooth short-hair finish. Great Clippers I have purchased 6 different clippers over the last 8 years. This is my second set of Osters and I will never buy anything else again. The first pair were broken by my parents and husband after 6 years of heavy use (including horses, dogs and a cat). The rest of the clippers were $50-$100, purchased from pet stores and most broke within the first few uses. These are the absolute best clippers ever. I have a long hair cat that needs clipping every 6 months and she hardly fought the clippers this time. Sharp, powerful, and remarkably quiet. Love them! Expected bteer performance Found this product to be very poor performing clipper. I was suprised that a $24.00 Wahl clipper did better than this product. Would not recommend for anyone to purchase ths product. A Great Clipper We got our Turbo A5 2-Speed Clipper 4 years ago, after having used cheaper ones, which did not last long, particularly with our last two very wooly cocker spaniels. We are quite pleased with it and we highly recommend it. |
